Commercial Flights Return to Nicaragua

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update as we had commercial flights return to Nicaragua yesterday, Saturday September 19th.

Three flights from Avianca landed. Two came in from San Salvador and one from Miami. The San Salvador connection works for Americans and Canadians who connect through Houston as well. As of today Avianca is the only major operator coming with connections from Canada & the States.

Here is the statement from Avianca on the requirements related to Covid testing to fly with them. Translated from Spanish:

“The Avianca airline through several statements has made it known the requirements that passengers who disembark their flights to Nicaragua must meet.

The company has confirmed that it will resume its operations in the country starting next Saturday, with two weekly flights. The requirements to be able to board a flight to Nicaragua are: Send the negative result of a Covid-19 test, whose validity is not greater than 72 hours, before entering the country.

The proof must be sent to the airline 36 hours before the flight along with the passenger's name, reservation code or ticket number. This information will be sent by the airline to the Civil Aeronautics Authority and the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

On the day of the trip, passengers must carry the original document of the Covid-19 test results. "We recommend reviewing the pages of the country's official entities in case you require documents to fly," the airline highlighted in a statement.

Passengers who do not present negative results of the Covid-19 test will not be able to board the flights. Avianca's first commercial connections to Nicaragua will be Miami-Managua and Managua-San Salvador.

Up to now, all Avianca communications indicate that its operations will start this Saturday, being a good step towards seeking a new normal in the tourism industry," said Jahoska Porras, manager of a travel agency. In this way, Avianca will become the first airline to resume its flights to Nicaragua.”

Today (Sunday September 20th) there are flights scheduled coming in from Honduras, Panama City and Cuba on multiple airlines. You can check out the arrival schedules over at Flight Radar.

It looks like more American carriers will be opening up routes in October. I’ll be updating this article as these things change.
